Editor’s Message: Celebrating 27 Years of IDC

Dear Readers,

Twenty-seven years ago, Emma Abraham and I launched Ice-Dance.com (IDC). Our goal was simple: to create a place where people who loved ice dance could find information. We had no idea that what started as a small passion project in 1999 would still be here 27 years later.

Emma and I reunited at the 2025 World Championships in Boston, MA.

Over the years, IDC has grown beyond what we ever could have imagined. We’ve shared countless stories from athletes at every stage of their careers as well as news, results, interviews, photos, and features. We’ve covered Olympic Games, World Championships, Grand Prix events, national championships, and more. All while documenting the evolution of a sport that has changed so much (and in some ways stayed the same) over the past three decades.

What amazes me most isn’t the number of events we’ve covered or the years we’ve been online. It’s the people. Athletes, coaches, officials, photographers, contributors, readers, and fans from around the world have all helped shape what IDC has become. What started as a personal website grew into a community, and that’s something I will always cherish. Every interview, every story, every competition covered, and every message from someone who found the site helpful has reminded me why I started it in the first place.

As I reflect on IDC’s legacy, one of the things I’m most proud of is that while judging systems, competition formats, technology, and media platforms have evolved, our mission has remained the same: to celebrate ice dance, tell the stories behind the results, and provide a hub for the community that loves this sport.

IDC could not have reached this milestone without the incredible generosity of so many people. Over the years, photographers, journalists, and contributors have donated countless hours of their time and talent to help tell the stories of our sport. From covering competitions and conducting interviews to sharing photos and writing articles, their passion has helped make the site what it is today. To Team IDC, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can’t adequately express in words how much your efforts mean to me and the ice dance community.

I am also grateful to the readers and supporters who have contributed financially through Patreon, PayPal, and other donations. This support has helped offset the costs of maintaining and growing the site, allowing IDC to remain an independent resource for the skating community.

Every contribution—whether measured in hours, expertise, photographs, articles, or dollars—has played a part in keeping the website online for this milestone. The site may have started with me, but it has never been just mine. It belongs to everyone who has supported it, contributed to it, and made it part of their skating journey.

Thank you for being part of these 27 years. Whether you’ve been visiting Ice-Dance.com since the early days or discovered us recently, you’ve helped make it what it is today.

Here’s to the memories we’ve shared, the stories still waiting to be told (in words and photos) and the next chapter.

~ Daphne
