What’s Next For Interior & Furniture Design?

NeoCon 2025 brought fresh energy to Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, turning every floor into a playground of ideas, textures, and next-gen thinking. From modular workspaces to bold material palettes, the show was a pulse check on where commercial design is headed. Our team at Beyond Design walked the floors with curiosity and left with a better understanding of interior and furniture design trends.

Cloud Daybed – Eny Lee Parker

One of the comfiest pieces of furniture at the show, the Cloud DayBed is a tranquil design that encourages rest and relaxation. It captures the essence and shape of a cloud with its soft and fluffy nature that lures users to sit or lie in it. The daybed’s arched seat and elevated head support keep users secure and cozy, prompting them to put their feet up, relax, and daydream.

Cargo Modular Seats – Mizzetto

These Swedsigh modular sofas challenge the preconceptions of form and function with their unique shape. The seating and name are a nod to shipping cargo that has been wrapped and covered in straps. Each quadrant offers a cushiony cubic spot to sit or place objects. Plus, the couches are perfectly symmetrical, so they can be clustered together to create longer sofas or spread out to provide individual spaces.

Tejo Seating – Isomi

This modular seating system has won awards for its sustainability-focused manufacturing approach. The sofas and benches are built from repurposed cork byproducts from the wine bottle cork manufacturing process, as well as natural materials such as wool and hemp fabrics. It’s extraordinary how the design repurposes cork into the internal frame of the seats to support unseen structural elements. The comfy components can be configured and seamed into a wide variety of lengths and geometries to accommodate large and small seating arrangements.

Plot Twist – Om

Perfect for education, healthcare, or office facilities, these ergonomic seats make work more pleasant. Aside from the cushioned foam that is molded into the swivel seats, the chairs can feature a variety of helpful accessories. There are options for different-sized foam backrests, a retractable rope handle, and a height-adjustable surface area for users who wish to sit or stand. It also uses sustainable materials and has parts that are easy to disassemble and recycle.

TOOthePOINT- Arcadia

The work-lounge experience gets redefined with circular comfort, movement, and the perfect amount of surface area for uninterrupted productivity. Ironically, the design has no sharp points to it. The products are built to handle concentrated individual tasks with their defined space, as well as dynamic group work when multiple are configured into clusters. This smart design keeps things simple with its perfectly round shape that encapsulates users in a space that is uniquely their own.

Cabrio – Extremis

Many offices and terraces have sofas and couches, but few offer that feeling of seclusion that workers occasionally need. That’s where the Cabrio from Extremis comes in. This padded two-seater comes equipped with a fully reclinable top that can provide privacy, shade, and elemental protection when workers are sitting in it or trying to rest. The design resembles a beach basket turned into a snug cocoon.

Central Bark – Darran

Office pets have become more and more popular, and these employees deserve to be comfortable, too. Darran understands this, and they designed a professional-looking Murphy bed for dogs. This office treat comes fully equipped with a pull-out bed and drawers to hold bowls of food and water. It’s a mindful way to make the workspace more inclusive for animals while blending in with office interior design aesthetics.

HighRise Euro Partitions – Bradley Corporation

This line of bathroom dividers takes inspiration from European lavatories to enhance the American bathroom experience. The partition’s design covers floor-to-ceiling to provide complete privacy and to effectively reduce excessive background noise. The stalls feature a sleek, clean design that uses lightweight, durable, and moisture-resistant materials that come in various wood finishes and color options. They also include LED occupancy indicators to signal when the stalls are user accessible.

Pendant Series – LightArt

NeoCon saw a preview of new, advanced 3D-printed lights made from plant-based PLA. The glowing product line takes on tall and wide eccentric shapes to cast warm light and fascinating shadows. They resemble a series of shining sculptures that serve a practical purpose. Plus, the use of additive manufacturing cuts down on material waste and allows for complex geometric shapes to be built on a large scale. The line will launch in October this year.

SpaceWalk – V/S

The SpaceWalk Storage Collection was designed to make material storage and access more modular, fluid, and accessible for teachers and students. These cabinets and carts enable learning environments to shift gears with ease and transport all the necessary materials within arm’s reach. Instead of being prescribed for the standard European-sized papers and tools like traditional cabinetry, these plastic and metal cabinets are built for American standard papers and books to optimize spaces and reduce the amount of wasted storage area.

Kinetic Art Table – Sisyphus Industries

These tables combine meditative sand raking, Greek mythology, and physics to create an awe-inspiring experience. Users can watch a magnetized ball be rolled inside a padauk wood and glass table, where it draws intricate patterns in the sand. Sisyphus Industries builds massive versions for museums and smaller versions for offices and homes. They include pre-download preset patterns, and users can upload their own artwork as SVG files for endless creativity.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

NeoCon 2025 highlighted just how quickly commercial design is evolving. As work and lifestyle needs continue to shift, bigger themes like sustainability, modularity, spatial customization, collaboration, and multi-purposeness will play a defining role in shaping offices and workspaces.
