UK Hoteliers Urged to Stay Agile Amidst Persistent Economic Headwinds

Patryk Luszcz, UK regional director at Profitroom, says hoteliers will need to stay agile in the face of continuing inflationary pressures in 2025.

Luszcz said: “Hoteliers across the UK are having to contend with persistent pressures, including ongoing inflationary strain and National Insurance hikes reshaping the trading landscape as we move into Q2.

“This coupled with cautious consumer behaviour and concern about US tariffs are squeezing margins for UK hoteliers.

“While UK inflation eased to 2.6 per cent in March, according to ONS figures released last week, the broader economic picture remains uncertain.

“Despite some recent encouragement from February’s 0.5 per cent growth in UK GDP, rebounding from a 0.1 per cent dip in January, the reality of these fluctuating figures is that there’s no room for complacency.

“With inflation easing only slightly, hoteliers can’t afford to wait for perfect conditions. The priority now is to adapt and find smarter ways of doing more with less.

“While travellers are more cautious with their spending, their expectations remain high. When they do book, it’s often for a special trip and they expect a personalised service, seamless experiences and value that justifies the cost.

“We know first-hand just how hard hotels are having to work to deliver exceptional guest experiences, often with tighter budgets and smaller teams. While there’s no silver bullet, technology is playing a vital role in helping hoteliers weather the storm.

“Smart systems that automate admin, boost direct bookings, and surface actionable data are already proving essential. When paired with data analysts focused on your property, tech becomes a powerful enabler for more resilient, cost-effective and guest-focused operations. This includes automated strategies like creating relevant offers and packages which reflect the latest trends to add perceived value, or F&B offers that align with your inventory.

“Loyalty schemes, too, have never been more important. They can offer engaged customers lower prices and personalised deals, while giving hotels the chance to upsell, boost retention, and reduce reliance on costly customer acquisition.

“Our team at Profitroom is largely made up of former hoteliers, so we understand the day-to-day pressures first-hand. With our ear to the ground, we work as an extension of each hotel’s team, helping them to streamline operations, grow direct revenue and support stretched teams.”
